I’m really proud of myself.
My story. My first ever try at a 3000 word piece of fiction, the story at the centre of BUNKERGATE, got Shortlisted! 'Enlightened' was highly commended! Repeat – HIGHLY COMMENDEDI
Out of 55 entries in the Diamond Light Short story competition, my story was taken seriously enough, as a genuine piece of fiction, to be ranked on a par with 14 real-life writers and passed to the two authors who were judging the competition; Jennifer Rohn and Anjana Ahuja.
I didn’t win but – THEY LIKED IT! THEY THOUGHT IT WAS GOOD.
I’ve Googled the 1st and 2nd place writers and they are both highly accomplished writers with stories published all over the place, the winner in particular specialises in sci-fi, yet there is little old me being judged against them – FANTASTIC!
I’m really excited about that. My faith in my abilities is coming back. I can do this. I can.
I know 3000 words take a while to read and you have already used my time allocation to read this intro, but I would absolutely love it if you would pop over and have a read. I put lots of effort into this story and am really pleased with it. I really would love it if you could pop over, read it, and then come back and let me know what you thought.
It would mean a lot to me.
This story has been published on their website and will be published in their anthology too.
Okay, it’s not going to be on the best seller list, you won’t be seeing the anthology taking up Dan Brown’s space on the shelves at WHSmith but get this – I’m going to be a published fiction author!
Thanks

Awesome! Congrats!
I am so stoked for you!!! I remember posts you've written doubting your skills when you didn't get comments on your fiction fridays. I remember you thinking about not blogging anymore. I remember thinking that you're awesome and it turns out you are!! Other people think so too!!
I haven't read your story yet. With my interruptions today, it has taken me hours to read this post. But I am totally going to and will report back. I might get hubs to read it too because I think it might be more his genre.
Did I say congratulations yet? no! well congratulations Glen. This is just the beginning.
omg I was so wrong. It's not as sci-fi as I thought it would be. I think I enjoyed it more than my husband will.
I loved the last paragraph.
I was left wanting to know what happened to Jane. Desperately wanting to know if it all worked out and how she's doing.
So, it must be good.
Glen, it is fantastic. I'm not surprised you were commended.
So. When do we get chapter two? If that isn't the first chapter of a bloody good read then I don't know what is.
Fantastic read and a worthy reward for your efforts!
Now - more, please!!!
Beach Bum - thanks
Toushka - Thank you - i veered away from getting sci-fi in it because I'd have messed it all up, i enjoy watching sci-fi a lot - but rarely read it! Glad it left you wondering...
Barbara - Thanks, not sure what I'd do with it next tbh - perhaps introduce Jane to Alfie - a Starbucks Barista who introduces Jane to Rocky Road.. will she mess things up with Gavin? Will she become adicted to cake?
Sue - Thanks and indeed I need to buckle down and write some more
Wheeeeee! That's fantastic, Glen!!
I'm off to read you...

Good for you! I am so proud of you for keeping on trucking. I even read it and really enjoyed it so keep on churning it out and soon you'll be the next Stephen King wearing a large codpiece.
