So what did I get up to last weekend?

So, finally I have a chance to talk about what I got up to at the weekend! Well…

We took the boys to visit their future kittens for one thing. This was very exciting, because as the pictures show - they are VERY cute.

The kittens are still too young to be separated from their mother, so we are patiently waiting, though that is getting harder all the time – especially now we have met them.

We popped in to my wife’s friend’s house for a visit, and there were the two little balls of fluff. Jo and I stayed only briefly before leaving the boys behind for the afternoon to play. Suffice to say the boys absolutely loved that – Jo’s friend is ace!

Still, that left Jo and I alone, on a wet Sunday afternoon. What could a loving couple striving to cope with the pressures and strains of parenthood possibly do next?

I looked at her and she looked at me, and we both smiled naughtily as we coyly asked each other what we wanted to do next. How often do you get a Sunday afternoon alone together when you have kids? Not often, is the answer and so I think we both knew exactly what we wanted to do. The air buzzed around me as I anticipated the words that were as yet unsaid.

Pretty much at the exact same time we spoke our answers...

Funnily enough, it turned out that I was wrong.

In fact I was way off.

What we did instead was to go and find a nice pub to have lunch together in peace; eating a meal while relaxing in conversation is usually impossible. I’ll give Jo some credit there, this was actually very nice. It is surprising how good going out for lunch can be when you forget to take the kids. Generally I find it a stressful experience, whereas on Sunday it was positively lovely. Then we went home and, as I had completely failed to guess, cleaned the oven.

And no, that’s not a euphemism.

I’ll admit it did need cleaning, but on the whole I still think my idea was better.

So what did I get up to last week? Well…

For one thing I managed to patronise and mildly upset a considerably better writer than me – like I know what I’m talking about! Since when did people start listening to me anyway?

Sorry.

For my wife it would be the bathrooms for me it would be drinking beer in front of the television. I believe there was once something called "sex" in our lives but its been so long I forget.

What did you clean your oven with? Mine needs doing too! Sounds like you had a nice relaxing weekend with the Mrs - it's easy to forget what it's like without kids ;-)

Carla - Hello - happy to make anyone laugh me..

Annie - Not sure what it's called but you put the shelves into a bag that comes with it and leave over night - they came up an absolute shiny treat! Then the rest we used on the oven itself - I'd love to get excited about that --- :-)

I refuse to let my husband help me clean my oven. He gets all sweaty and wants to finish before I get started. Only I can do it properly.*

*probably not a euphemism
